Announcing Officine Panerai’s great success on its overseas debut, as sponsor of the famous Antigua Classic Week, a historic event in the world of classic sailing boats in the panorama of Caribbean yachting.
Three regattas, great crowds, enthusiasm amongst the fans, a multitude of boats and, as always at Antigua, a number of luxury yachts, large schooners that regularly take part in ocean racing. In addition, many events and the customary warm welcome from the island.
At the end of the third day with the most classic of 24-mile regatta known as “The Cannon”, famous above all for the atmosphere of exceptional high spirits and bonhomie among the yachting enthusiasts, the winners in the various classes were announced. Gaucho took first place amongst the Classic Yacths in Class A, while Altair (also awarded the overall Elegance award) came first in Class B, and Ticonderoga won in Class C. Victory for Jambalaya in the Traditional Class. In the Classic Class, victories for Nulla Bona in Class A, Long White Cloud in Class B, Blue Leopard in Class C, and Seljm in Class D.
Antigua Classic Week in April marked the debut of Panerai as the first Italian sponsor in the Caribbean home of sailing, and is the curtain raiser for the great season awaiting classic boats in the Mediterranean, with the second edition of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge 2006, now close to the starting line.
The first appointment will be at Antibes in France, from 31st May to 4th June, which will be followed by the first Italian round at Porto Santo Stefano for Argentario Sailing Week, from 15th to 18th June. The Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge will then follow on at Port Mahon (Balearic islands) from 30th August to 2nd September, returns to Italy for the highly anticipated biennial event at Imperia from 12th to 17th September, and will then reach its conclusion at Cannes with le Régates Royales from 24th September to 1st October.
