The Watch Quote™ - April 20th, 2011
Audemars Piguet becomes the partner of the first edition of Spa Classic which will take place on 27, 28 and 29 May on one of the most prestigious race tracks in the world. The Manufacture has seized this opportunity to reinforce its presence in the world of classic car races.
Guided since 1875 by the values which inspire its philosophy, excellence and audacity, Audemars Piguet has chosen to become main co-sponsor and official timekeeper of the first edition of Spa Classic. An annual meeting under the sign of tradition, which reflects the glorious past of the Spa-Francorchamps circuit and which will welcome the sports cars which have written the most beautiful pages of its history. Excellence will be highlighted on the circuit by the elite of the automotive sport since the fifties, classified in six categories: Classic Endurance Racing; Sixties Endurance; Trofeo Nastro Rosso; Challenge ASAVE; BOSS GP and Group C Racing. Iconic cars and unique models have already enrolled: Ferrari 250 SWB Short Wheel Base, Maserati Birdcage, Mustang Shelby, Skoda Sport 1948, Howmet TX Turbine, Ligier JS3, many Porsche prototypes, Sauber Mercedes Silver Arrow, Formula 1 models from the nineties… Spa Classic immediately establishes itself as a key event for anyone passionate about cars and first class entertainment.
The Spa-Francorchamps race track is without a doubt a favourite amongst pilots. At the crossroads of Europe, it enjoys a spectacular setting within the magnificent hilly landscape of the Ardennes mountain range. Its track is one of the longest in Europe and has retained most of the elements which contributed to its fame, such as the famous “Eau Rouge” bend, theatre to many wheel-to-wheel races such as Joe Siffert and Pedro Rodriguez in their Porsches 917 at the top of the hill in 1970.
Thanks to this new partnership, Audemars Piguet continues to develop the close link it already has with the world of motorsports. In 2011, the Manufacture is also partner of the Tour Auto for the sixth time and of the Gstaad Classic Audemars Piguet for the second time, two historical rallies of international reach. Jarno Trulli, Sébastien Buemi and more recently Michael Schumacher have become ambassadors of Audemars Piguet who has made the world of motorsports a preferred environment for the brand.
Audemars Piguet is the oldest watch-making manufacture still in the hands of the founding families (Audemars and Piguet). Since 1875, the company has written essential chapters of fine watchmaking history, amongst which many world premieres. In the Vallée de Joux, in the heart of the Swiss Jura mountain range, masterpieces are created in limited editions with a remarkable level of horological perfection: sports and audacious models, classical and traditional time-keepers, magnificent jewellery creations for ladies as well as single pieces.
