News March 2008Hublot has chosen Argentina to cement its commitment to the Gstaad Polo Club and to bathe in the atmosphere of this equestrian sport in the very country where it was invented.
![]() Big Bang Polo Club GstaadA Big Bang in the land of poloThe Watch Quote™ - March 16th, 2008 In anticipation of the “Hublot Polo Gold Cup Gstaad” which will be held in Switzerland next August, the watchmaker today put its seal — in the land of polo — on its partnership with the prestigious club, at the same time as it presented the new Big Bang chronograph sporting the tournament logo. This was also an opportunity for the brand to present the new ambassador, who will wear its colours: Miguel Novillo Astrada. Prior to sponsoring its own first tournament, which will be held in Gstaad next summer, Hublot wanted to explore the universe of this sport, at the centre of the polo world. It is without any doubt in Argentina — a country of immense prairies with optimal conditions for horse breeding — that the best players and best teams are found. Pierre Genecand, President of the Gstaad Polo Club and passionate about polo, understood this well: having fallen in love with this country, he settled there several years ago to develop his own stud farm and train his horses for polo. It was after his encounter with another enthusiast — Jean-Claude Biver, Hublot CEO — that the wish to associate the Gstaad tournament with the watchmaking brand was born. An ever inquisitive and curious person, Mr Biver was won over by this sport which symbolises the dynamic fusion between man and horse in an agile and precise joust. On Argentinian soil, this partnership should begin under the most favourable auspices!
Miguel Novillo Astrada The new ambassador for Hublot watches is a personality in the polo world, well known for his extraordinary career as a player — at 29 years of age — privileged to be among the five world players with a 10-goal handicap. Born into a family which for generations has been carrying on the tradition of the game, he belongs with his four brothers to one of the most successful teams in the history of polo — the “Aguada Polo Club” — which embodies consistently high sporting excellence. Hublot is proud to present such a great player with the new Big Bang “Polo Club Gstaad” chronograph.
This model is the second Hublot timepiece associated with polo, after the one launched in 2007 for the Saint-Tropez Polo Club. The Big Bang Polo Club Gstaad — a limited series of 250 pieces — is a black ceramic chronograph featuring the Gstaad tournament logo on its dial.
The next polo meeting is scheduled to take place from 14 to 17 August, and this time the games will be held in Gstaad, the prestigious Bernese Alps resort, on the airfield. Hublot TV reports offer non-stop images of Hublot events on www.hublot.com!
