Hublot on board Luna Rossa for America’s Cup

The Watch Quote™ - March 15th, 2007

Dual synergy

Historically, Hublot is indissociably linked to the sea and boats. Its name (French for porthole) and its casing speak for themselves! After many prestigious partnerships in the nautical and yachting world (Monaco Yacht Club, Real Club de Palma, Vendée Globe, Hublot PalmaVela, Solitaire du Figaro, Wally), this partnership within the Americas’ Cup is an event that is totally in harmony with the Hublot philosophy.

To set off on this adventure, what could be better than Luna Rossa as the ideal partner?

There are many synergies between Luna Rossa and Hublot: enterprises with a creative and innovative approach, bursting with ambition, ready to take on any challenge, motivated by a common desire for performance and backed by the best experts in each field ... reflecting their advanced technology and the constant quest for perfection in terms of materials and aesthetics. They are also symbols of elegance and luxury, with a shared taste for beauty and class. The boat and the watch have joined forces in a sporting competition with the wind full in their sails!

With the technological demands and avant-garde design of the boats, the Americas’ Cup is THE nautical contest with the most in common with the development of Hublot products. The synergy between the boat and the watch are reflected in the similarity of the materials used: Kevlar, ceramics, rubber, titanium and carbon, assembled in the most intricate form in the Big Bang Luna Rossa, and on a grand scale with the America Class yacht. The “fusion” so dear to Hublot is present in every sense!

Big Bang Luna Rossa

Having dedicated the first Big Bang model to “Tuiga”, a 15-metre J-Class yacht built in 1909, renovated in 1993 and owned by the Monaco Yacht Club, Hublot has now chosen the image of a contemporary yacht and a partnership for the design of its very latest Big Bang. It bears the name of a team that is taking part for the 3rd time in the oldest sailing race in the world with high hopes of being amongst the winning challengers!

The latest in the Big Bang collection will be issued in a numbered limited edition of 1000 watches. The design is extreme, distinguished, refined and exclusive. Constructed using advanced technology materials (carbon, Kevlar, titanium, ceramics and rubber), which makes its genetic code the same as that of the America Class yacht, it bears the signature Luna Rossa on the famous red line drawn on its carbon case, as well as inside the natural rubber strap. The movement is a chronograph with automatic winding.

In addition to the Hublot retailers, it will also be on sale for the first time in the most exclusive Prada stores, proudly flying the colours of Hublot within this temple of fashion and luxury.
