Argentine Triple Crown 2012

Jaeger-LeCoultre is the official partner
of La Aguada Las Monjitas team

The Watch Quote™ - October 10th, 2012

Argentina’s Triple Crown championship, one of the most dazzling and eagerly-anticipated events in the annual polo calendar, offers the chance to see the best polo players in the world pitted against one another. The competition is made up of three separate Open tournaments at the Tortugas, Hurlingham and Palermo clubs.

This year Jaeger-LeCoultre has the honour of participating as the official partner of a new team, La Aguada Las Monjitas, with 33 goals to its credit and consisting of the Argentinian national team player and Jaeger-LeCoultre ambassador Eduardo Novillo Astrada (handicap 9); Lucas James (handicap 8); Cristian Laprida (handicap 8); and Alejandro Novillo Astrada (handicap 8).

On Saturday 23 September, at the Jockey Club Open, the tournament that each year precedes the highly prestigious Argentine Triple Crown, the La Aguada Las Monjitas team had already put on a brilliant performance, defeating Chapa Uno 11–9. Seven teams took part in the tournament, all with handicaps of between 28 and 34.

Eduardo Novillo Astrada

The Argentinian polo player Eduardo Novillo Astrada is one of the few players to have achieved a handicap of 10 – the highest figure achievable in this sport. A Jaeger-LeCoultre ambassador since 2006, he is one of the very best players in the world, and famously won the 2003 Argentine Triple Crown together with his three brothers.
“I’m a great believer in Jaeger-LeCoultre’s values, including team spirit, passionate commitment, elegance, and, in my view most importantly of all, the family”. Eduardo Novillo Astrada.

Jaeger-LeCoultre and the world of polo

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso is the only watch in the world whose history is so closely intertwined with the world of polo. The Reverso was created in 1931 at the request of polo- playing British Indian Army officers who had become tired of having their watches regularly damaged by some of the game’s more violent strokes. The legendary reversible case was invented to protect the timepiece’s dial and glass by ensuring that it is the metal case-back that is exposed to any possible impacts. Unique in its kind, the Reverso is thus the first watch to have been specifically designed for the practising of a sport, while at the same time never sacrificing elegance to practical requirements. Over 80 years after the birth of this legendary model, Jaeger-LeCoultre today once again confirms the strong links that tie it to the world of polo in its capacity as partner of the famous La Aguada Las Monjitas team.
